Amelia is a talented, creative and hard working human being. It has been a great pleasure to communicate with her about this project. An Ithacan by adoption of community but in her spirit and fight she has the lineage of a family that has been here for generations.

An Ithacan by adoption of community but in her spirit and fight she has the lineage of a family that has been here for generations. Funny, sharp and hilarious Amelia is the proud mother of a beautiful young boy. It is a pleasure to work with her in all aspects of this project as she brings her talent for creation, design and community to the Beautiful Ithaca project.

Where are you from and can you tell us one beautiful memory from your childhood?
I am from Wisconsin.  I spent most of my summers either on The Chain of Lakes near Waupaca or on Lake Superior in Washburn.  I loved climbing the sandstone boulders along the southern shore of Lake Superior.

I know you are not from Ithaca, what makes this place home to you now?
I have chosen to call Ithaca my home away from home.  The father of my child is a local Ithacan.  He has shown me many of the natural wonders of this gorgeous area.

Tell us a little bit about your beautiful son and motherhood?
My son, D’Nali Rae Barrett is a wonder to behold.  I absolutely love watching him develop.  I never get sick of watching him walk! Also I adore seeing him observe the world.  I hope for him to become a strong and creative boy and then man.  About motherhood; Motherhood is more challenging then I thought it would be.  Although I find it very rewarding when I hear my son laugh.

What attracted you to the Beautiful Ithaca project?
Being a Libra, I am always trying to surround myself with beauty.  Also, I feel strongly about the social issues that Alexis and his wife are bringing up with the anti-fracking movement and also with the importance of Planned Parenthood staying funded by the state.  And who wouldn’t want to say they posed for a calender!

What message do you hope to convey in your month?
I hope to convey that mothers can be sexy as well as active in the community while following her creative dreams.
