Alley Ghost

Bob Reuter’s Alley Ghost is a group of younger musicians backing the godfather of the St. Louis scene. The band began in 2009 when Bob was in the hospital near death from heart trouble. Mat Wilson, guitarist and songwriter from the Rum Drum Ramblers, began to visit Bob and they formed an immediate bond. After Bob was discharged, Big Muddy label head Chris Baricevic enlisted the help of Mat to co-produce a record that would re-introduce Bob to the world and to the younger generation coming up. Musicians were pulled from the roster of Big Muddy’s bands and “Bob Reuter’s Alley Ghost” was created on reel-to-reel in Bob’s kitchen, at Bob’s request to not leave his home during recovery. The folk-punk tinged album was released locally to warm reception. The project was successful and Bob was awarded the Riverfront Times’ “Best Songwriter of 2010.”

Now, Alley Ghost, as the band is commonly called, has adopted a sweat-drenched proto-punk sound and has recorded a new record entitled “Born There.” They are planning a short tour through the Midwest and the South in an effort to introduce one of their heroes to the rest of the United States.
